To
start our Peace Builders campaign we took part in a school
wide Internet project called, Pinwheels for Peace. The
project's site says, "A pinwheel is a childhood symbol - it
reminds us of a time when things were simple, joyful, and
peaceful."
Back
Our students
created pinwheels, and wrote their thoughts about war and
peace, tolerance, and living in harmony with others, on one
side. On the other side, the students drew to visually
express their feelings.
Each class
assembled their pinwheels and voted on one to represent
their class. On the International Day of Peace, Thursday,
September 21, 2006, each class "planted" their chosen
pinwheel. The rest of the school symbolically spun their
pinwheels to spread thoughts and feelings about peace
throughout the school and the world!
