P.S. 279
Dr. Lena Richardson

I was born in South Carolina, however as a young child we moved to New York City, where I attended public schools from elementary to high school.
I joined Region #6 with an extensive background in administration, which include serving as Special Assistant for New Schools with the Chancellor's District, time as Director of Funded Programs in CSD 19 and as principal of an elementary school in Nassau County, as well as the New York City Public School System. I became principal of P.S. 279 in late August 2003.
Along with my work in a variety of capacities in the education field, I hold several academic degrees, including a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from St. John's University, an M.S. in Remedial and Developmental Reading from City College and a B.S. in Public Administration from Medgar Evers College.
Over the past two decades I have strengthened my educational credentials by obtaining numerous licenses and certifications, including Senior Curriculum Development and Instructional Specialist, Senior Staff Development Specialist, and Director of Funded Programs.
I am looking forward to working closely with the P.S. 279 school community. This is a wonderful setting for me to continue my educational career. I am very excited and I am certain that this will be a productive school year with many successes.
